Whew, what a Saturday! But it had a rhythm that accompanies the calm, clear days of spring.
We ran to town to spend the morning helping our Aggie kids move into their first house. The move actually started yesterday afternoon with a couple of loads in the all purpose vehicle, but today was “empty the second floor flat into the rental truck and unload it at the new place” day. We really had a fun morning with sons, in-law/friends and others.
In the middle of that, Kay and I did a little lawnmower shopping, as we are sharing our housewarming gift with my parents.
When all the stuff was unloaded at the new place we shopped our way back through Parker County to the Cottage; bedding plants here, Bermuda sod there, and a burger at Sonic.
We replanted the welcome pots at the front porch together. I can never do that without thinking of our glorious trips to Santa Fe, where the atmosphere is so clear the colors seem to be magical.
Then it was off for a quick nine of golf with a neighbor. I had a calmness today like none in several years. A 40 with 5 pars, a bogey, a double, a triple and a birdie.
After dinner I planted the sod in some bare spots and, after setting the sprinklers, I prepared to enjoy the evening studying my lesson for tomorrow on the porch with a glass of Merlot, and Kay. However, with the sun only beginning to hide behind the elms and the pond as calm as I’ve ever seen it, I couldn’t help but take a fly out for a dunking. After catching 5 little bluegills while watching the orange glow of the setting sun, I heard a sprinkler come on behind me. Turning to see if I was about to get a shower, I saw the incredible full moon rising low over the end of the 11th fairway. All I could think was “Oh, my God! What a day!”
The moon shadows are spectacular tonight. The moonlight is so bright I can see the reflection of the halfway house in the pond. Do I have to go in?
Come see the planters.
